Manchester United have taken a major step forward in their pursuit of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, holding their first official talks with the player’s representatives earlier this week.
According to French outlet FootMercato, the meeting took place on Monday and was described as “very positive.” United officials met with Osimhen’s entourage to discuss the potential of a summer transfer, and both parties left the talks optimistic about a deal.
Osimhen’s camp reportedly expressed the striker’s strong desire to join the Premier League giants, and also outlined his financial expectations. The 26-year-old is seeking a salary of around €12 million per year, which would bring his total wage package to approximately €35 million over the course of a standard three-year contract.

Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli permanently this summer after a season-long loan at Turkish club Galatasaray, where he has scored an impressive 33 goals in all competitions. His loan expires in June 2025, but he is widely expected to return to Napoli only briefly before moving on.
The striker has a €75 million release clause in his contract, applicable to foreign clubs, which makes a move to the Premier League a strong possibility. Manchester United are among several top clubs monitoring his situation. Other reported suitors include Chelsea, Arsenal, PSG, Juventus, and Barcelona.
While FootballTransfers previously claimed Chelsea were leading the race, reports from Turkish sources suggest that Manchester United have now edged ahead. The Red Devils are actively in the market for a top-class centre forward, with other targets including Viktor Gyökeres, Benjamin Šeško, and Liam Delap.
Osimhen is no longer in Napoli’s plans following a breakdown in his relationship with the club last year. With a successful season in Turkey and firm interest from Europe’s elite, the Nigerian striker appears poised for a high-profile transfer — and Old Trafford could be his next destination.
