There is Nothing Wrong if Nigeria Becomes One-Party State-APC Nat’l Chairman, Ganduje

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdulahi Umar Ganduje has said that there was nothing wrong if Nigeria devolved into a one party state.

Ganduje justified the possible descent to one-party state while speaking to journalists at the State House in Abuja on Friday after leading three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senators from Kebbi State to visit President Bola Tinubu in preparation for their planned defection to the ruling APC.

Senators Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi and Garba Maidoki were led alongside the Kebbi State governor,  Dr. Nasir Idris to the meeting with Tinubu.

Reiterating the possibility of Nigeria turning into one-party, the APC National Chairman cited the example of China as a one-party state that has emerged as a world power.

He said: “Today, China is one of the most powerful countries in the world, and it is a one-party system

“We are not saying we are working for a one-party system, but if this is the wish of Nigerians, we cannot quarrel with that. You know they say too many cooks spoil the soup — too many political parties spoil governance.”

“If a one-party state is a wish and blessing to Nigeria, then so be it. A one-party state is not by force. It is by negotiation, and it is by other political parties seeing the effect of the positive governance of our party. If they decide to come to our party willingly, I think there is nothing wrong with that.”

The former Kano State governor insisted that Nigeria has nothing to lose if becomes one party state because President Bola Tinubu was doing a great job as the leader of the country hence the influx of elected politicians from other political parties into the APC.

“This is a good development and it is in consonance with what is happening in Nigeria today.

“Almost every week in the Senate and House of Representatives, you see members of other political parties decamping to our party’”

“In continuation with the initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that APC must do what we must do democratically in order to increase our numerical strength — and not only our numerical strength but also our quality and capacity of followership — I am pleased to inform you that the three PDP Senators from Kebbi State have reached a resolution to decamp to our great party, the APC.”

He dispelled rumours of possible implosion of the APC with the influx of new members insisting  that “Our constitution is very clear about this, and with our political dexterity in managing such affairs, I assure you that there will be a smooth integration.”

Ganduje further stated that multiple political parties was not good to the system as it “spoils”  governance. “You know they say too many cooks spoil the soup; too many political parties spoil governance,” the APC chairman said.

Ganduje revealed that the three senators will officially defect to the APC at the Tuesday plenary of the Senate, “

According to him, “So, we came here so that Mr President will bless this resolution and he has graciously given his blessing, and by Tuesday you will see what will happen in the Red Chambers.”
