2 Dead, 37 Rescued in Collapsed Two Storey Building in Abuja

37 persons have been rescued from a collapsed two storey building in the Garki area of Abuja.

The building collapsed on Wednesday night on the popular Lagos Street which serves 24 hours services. The collapse happened after a heavy down pour.

Confirming the number of rescued people, the Head of the Public Affairs of the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FCT FEMA), Mrs. Ngozi Isa in a statement on Thursday stated that two persons have unfortunately been confirmed killed in the accident.

Mrs. Isa said that the FCT FEMA is working with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and FCT Command of the Nigeria Police for smooth rescue and evacuation of victims and all those affected by the incident.

She said that “The two-storey building, which serves both residential and commercial purposes collapsed on Wednesday night.

“FCT FEMA Search and Rescue Team are awaiting excavators to intensify the search to ensure that no victim is left in the rubble of the collapsed building.”
