Ondo/Ekiti Customs Hands Over ₦112 Million Worth of Cannabis to NDLEA, Hails Inter-agency Partnership
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ondo/Ekiti Area Command, has reiterated its commitment to national security and public health with the formal handover of 140 sacks of cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The illicit substance, weighing 1,400 kilograms and valued at ₦112 million, was seized in December 2024 in Ekiti State.
In a statement released on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Herbert Dzungwenen, disclosed that the cannabis was intercepted while being transported by two suspects. The official handover took place on Monday, April 14, at the NDLEA office in Akure.
Speaking during the event, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Morenikeji Bewaji, emphasized the significance of the seizure in the broader effort to combat drug trafficking.

“Had this consignment made it into circulation, the consequences would have been dire,” she stated, warning against the growing threat posed by cannabis trafficking.
She highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration, describing it as a driving force behind the success of recent operations. “Our partnership with the NDLEA has yielded significant results, and we are committed to strengthening it further to reduce, if not eliminate, the trafficking of illicit substances,” Bewaji said.
The Customs chief also called on the public to actively support law enforcement efforts by sharing credible intelligence, and she commended the NDLEA for its unwavering dedication to the anti-drug campaign.
In response, the NDLEA Commander of Narcotics for Ondo State, Nanzing Sallah represented by Deputy Commander Daramola Olumuyiwa praised the Customs Service for the successful seizure. He reaffirmed the NDLEA’s commitment to continued collaboration with the NCS in the shared fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
