As part of efforts to drive academic excellence and institutional growth, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has officially expanded its Deputy Vice-Chancellors (DVCs) slots from two to three, marking a significant landmark development in the university’s leadership structure.
The Vice-Chancellor, Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, made the strategic announcement in her address at the 129th Regular Meeting of the University Senate, held on Thursday, May 29, 2025. The appointment is effective 7 July, 22025.
The newly appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellors include; Professor Muhammad Maikano Ari – Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Dr. Halima Doma Kutigi – Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and Dr. K’tso Ngharbu – Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovations).
Background of the new appointees

Professor Ari is a seasoned expert in Animal Nutrition from the Department of Animal Science. He brings a wealth of experience, having served as Director of Quality Assurance and Servicom and as Special Adviser on Multilateral Cooperation to the Nasarawa State Government. He currently serves as the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies and has consulted for the World Bank, FAO, and many other international development organisations.
Dr. Kutigi is a distinguished Associate Professor of Public and International Law. She has held leadership roles such as Director of the Bayo Ojo Centre for Arbitration and Mediation Studies and Head of the Islamic Law Department. She is currently the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law.
Dr. K’tso is an acclaimed Medical Geologist and Associate Professor, recognized for his pioneering work in environmental and health sciences. He currently serves as the Director of Linkages and International Cooperation at NSUK and is renowned for establishing Africa’s first Center for Medical Geology Research and the first Center for European Studies—both hosted at NSUK.
Goal of reform
The Vice-Chancellor emphasised that the expansion from two to three DVCs is a strategic enhancement aimed at fostering specialised focus across academics, administration, and research.
The appointments herald a transformative era for NSUK as it positions itself as a leading hub for research, legal scholarship, and academic excellence in Nigeria and beyond.
