North Central Women Condemn Attacks on Senator Akpoti, Call for Senate Accountability

The North Central Women Front (NCWF) has strongly condemned recent remarks made against the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing them as “mad imaginings, deception, and fantasy.”

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Chairperson of the group, Mrs. Mary Adamu, the women dismissed the criticisms from Prof. Sandra Duru (popularly known as Mgbeke), Mr. Blessing Agbomhere, and Mr. Fidelis Ella as “banal, irrelevant, and rooted in anti-democratic sentiment.”

“It is amazing that male politicians in Nigeria are resorting to dishonest tactics to fight women,” the statement read, accusing political actors of launching smear campaigns against Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The group expressed concern over the conduct of the Senate, saying it had placed the country in a “dilemma” through its recent actions, particularly the six-month suspension of the senator.

“The six-month suspension is raised in almost all the news media in the world,” the statement noted. “The leadership of the Senate must act now to save Nigeria from ignominy.”

The women lauded Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for her resilience and integrity in the face of political hostility. “She has refused to become an emotional client in the country’s political theatre,” Mrs. Adamu said, commending the senator’s “unflagging commitment to the improvement of Kogi Central Senatorial District.”

The statement went further to chastise the spokesperson of Executive Watch Dog, Mr. Fidelis Ella, saying he had “advertised his ignorance.” Alongside Prof. Mgbeke and Mr. Agbomhere, the group labeled the trio as “parrots and bootlickers of anti-democratic forces.”

“Unstable people can destroy anybody for a political appointment, contract, and petty cash,” the women said, describing ongoing allegations and propaganda as part of a “malicious agenda.”

The NCWF dismissed rumors about plots to destabilize national unity and dismantle Yoruba leadership structures, calling such narratives “foolish talk.”

“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is guided by patriotic commitment,” the statement affirmed.

Concluding, the group urged sympathizers of the Senate President and a former ministerial nominee to stop fanning the flames of division. “Do not lead Nigeria into confusion,” they warned.
