Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has declared his interest to contest for the National Chairman of the opposition the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Lamido announced his intention in a post made through his social media handle on Monday where he stated that he would be at the national headquarters where he would buy the expression of interest form.
According Lamido, “By the grace of God, I shall today, Monday, 27th October 2025, by 11 a.m., be at Wadata Plaza, the National Headquarters of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, to purchase the nomination form to run for the office of National Chairman.”
“My commitment to democracy and resolve to restore our dear party to its old glory is unstoppable.”
Lamido served as Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Olusegun Obasanjo between 1999 and 2003.

In 2007, he was elected the governor of Jigawa State and was re-elected in 2011, he served out his tenure in 2015.
During the time of President Mohammadu Buhari he was a vocal critic of the Buhari administration and has been outspoken against the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government.
PDP has scheduled its elective National Convention for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
However, there is fear that the convention may not hold as the lingering internal crisis in the party has led to two direct suits against the planned convention.
In one of the suits, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has fixed October 31, 2025 for ruling on whether the party could go ahead with the convention.
