Ex Ebonyi PDP Chairman, Nwazunku Was a ‘Patriot, Man of Integrity’ – Chief Ifeanyi Odii
The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii has expressed shock and sadness over the death of a former Acting State Chairman of the party, Dr. Augustine Nwazunku.
Chief Odii in a statement he personally signed on Friday decried the sudden demise of Dr. Nwazunku whom he described as “a patriot and a man of integrity.”
Chief Odii said that, “The loss of this great man has created an irreplaceable vacuum in our state, the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka where he taught and mentored young Nigerians on the critical need to preserve our natural environment for posterity.”
FACTSHEET reported that Dr. Nwazunku, a Consultant Environmental Health specialist and an Associate Professor of Environmental Heath at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State died in Abakaliki in the early hours of Thursday after what family sources described as a “minor” ailment.
Recounting the contributions of the late university lecturer, Chief Odii stated that late Nwazunku was a man who stood for truth and justice at all times even at great personal sacrifices.
Chief Odii’s full statement reads:
“I am devastated by the sad news of the death of Prof. Augustine Alugbala Nwazunku, the former Ebonyi State Caretaker Chairman of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and my personal ally.
“Prof. Nwazunku was a patriot, a man of integrity whose word is a bond; Chief Nwazunku was a confident man who believed in honour and the sanctity of truth.
“In the last few years that our path crossed in the PDP, Prof. Nwazunku stood firm on the path of justice, fair play and progress of our dear Ebonyi State
“The loss of this great man has created an irreplaceable vacuum in our state, the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka where he taught and mentored young Nigerians on the critical need to preserve our natural environment for posterity.
“As a strong leader of our dear party, Prof. Nwazunku, despite the unwarranted humiliation in the hands anti-democratic forces stood firm in defence of the truth and justice.
“On behalf of the PDP family in Ebonyi State, we condole with the Nwazunku family of Ntezi-Aba,Izzi in Nkalekle-Echara Unuhu Autonomous Community, Ebonyi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.
“We assure the family that we shall stand by them in this time of grief and beyond.
