Politician and public affairs commentator, Okonkwo, has described recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as absurd, likening the ruling party to a “sinking house” that defectors are foolishly seeking for shelter.
According to Okonkwo, who was speaking on sunday on channels TV Sunday Politics said “The whole idea of joining the ruling party is because of the belief that in 2027, they are going to write the result of the election, nothing else. I mean, it’s an absurdity that people will see a sinking house like the APC and run into it for shelter.”
He referenced a recent World Bank report predicting that Nigerians would become poorer until 2027. “Have you asked yourself why they stopped at 2027?” he asked. “Because they know that this country is blessed, and on the day it has a very good leader, poverty will dry up.”
Okonkwo criticized the current administration, stating, “They have given up on Tinubu’s regime a government that will afflict Nigerians with hunger and hardship until it ends in 2027.”
When an anchor interjected, noting that millions of Nigerians voted for Tinubu and considered him the best leader, Okonkwo alleged that “millions whose votes did not count” were ignored, claiming that “the results of the election were written.”
He challenged the integrity of the electoral process, saying, “Have you seen the polling unit-by-polling unit results from INEC for the 2023 presidential election? Section 62 (2,3) of the Electoral Act says that after the election, INEC should post the polling unit results electronically. INEC has not been able to provide these results till date because the results were written.”
Okonkwo further stated that “people are running into a sinking house because they believe in a magic the writing of results that the owner and builder of the house uses to sustain it.”

Speaking about Peter Obi’s electoral performance, he asserted, “In some states, the results in favor of Peter Obi were reduced to favor the APC.” He claimed there were “18,000 polling units where results were not posted at all,” and no explanation has been given to date.
“The results allocated to Peter Obi were not authentic. Go to Rivers State,” Okonkwo said, noting that while courts ruled the opposition could not provide substantial evidence of rigging, “how will you bring the evidence when INEC the only institution in custody of such documents refused to release them?”
He added that according to the spokesperson of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos, “Labour Party won Lagos State presidential election by a million votes, but the results were reduced to 10,000,” accusing INEC of widespread result manipulation.
“Majority of the results were mutilated, either allocating somebody’s result to another or removing someone’s result entirely,” Okonkwo said. He criticized INEC, stating, “INEC got 400 billion naira to organize an election known to human beings, yet the institution could not produce acceptable results.”
Okonkwo also commented on political developments in Delta State. “Senator Ned Nwoko says the only reason he wants to join the APC is because he has a lousy Governor who does not know his right from his left and who has broken all the agreements they had,” he noted.
He further explained the political dynamics: “There is Omo-Agege, who loves to be the Governor of Delta State and has been grooming the APC and welcoming people into the party. Then there is Festus Keyamo, who is not really a fan of Omo-Agege, and a PDP governor who is carrying all the people from PDP into APC.”
“Politics is simply playing out in Delta State,” Okonkwo added.
