Arewa, Ohanaeze, Middle belt, Oduduwa Youth Bodies Storm Kaduna, Enugu Over Plot to Smear Ex NNPCL Boss, Mele Kyari with EFCC Probe
... vow to fight back
The apex youth body of youth leaders and ethnic youth organisations in Nigeria , the ethnic youth leaders council of Nigeria made up of Middle belt youth forum, Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Youth movement, Arewa Consultative youth movement , Oduduwa Youths and South South Youths have summoned an emergency meeting to take firm position over the politically instigated attempt to smear the name of the former Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPCL) under the guise of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigation and use of paid public protest to harass him.
They said the meeting which will hold in Kaduna and hosted by AREWA youths will be followed by an international press conference that will be aired live on all television stations in Nigeria from Enugu state where the position of the Nigerian youths will be made known.
The youth leaders said this in reaction to the plot by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the alleged abuse of office and misappropriation of funds by former senior officials of NNPCL, including Mele Kyari.
The Nigeria youth leaders vowed to resist that inglorious attempt through taking legal action to halt the plot to smear Kyari’s name and sponsor protests against him and condemned the move which it described as politically motivated.
They wondered why a man who broke over 20 jinx and revived country’s refineries which started working, supported the first indigenous refinery, Dangote Petrol Chemicals, ensured increased oil production would be subjected to such planned blackmail with the intent to wipe away his legacies which earned him presidential commendation as an achiever.
The apex youth body in statement by comrade Ananukwa Edu said they are taken aback by reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) launched a probe into the alleged abuse of office and misappropriation of funds by former senior officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), including the immediate past GCEO, Mele Kyari.
“In a letter titled “Investigation Activities Request for Information”, referenced number CR:3000/EFCC/ABJ/HQ/SDC.2/NNPC/VOL.1/698 EFCC said it is investigating a case of Abuse of Office and Misappropriation of Funds in which

some officials including Kyari are involved.
“The anti graft agency requested the present NNPCL boss to furnish it with certified true copies of the emoluments and allowances of the said officials including that of those who have retired and no longer work with the organisation.
“Consequently, the Nigeria youth leaders have summoned emergency meeting to take position over the politically instigated attempt to smear the name of former NNPCL GCEO, Mele Kyari under the guise of EFCC investigation and use of paid public protest to harass the former helmsman of the national oil company.
“The meeting which will hold in Kaduna and hosted by AREWA youth will be followed by an international press conference that will be aired live on all television stations in Nigeria from Enugu state where the position of the Nigerian youths will be made name.
“Our other options include but not limited to taking legal action to halt the plot to smear Kyari’s name and sponsor protests against him while we will vehemently condemn the move which is politically motivated.
“We wondered why a man who broke over 20 jinx and revived Nigeria’s refineries which have started working, supported the first indigenous refinery, Dangote Petrol Chemicals, ensured increased oil production to about 2 million barrels per will be subjected to such planned blackmail with the intent to erasing his legacies which earned him presidential commendation as an achiever.
“This is unacceptable!” We will do everything within the law to make sure Kyari is saved the usual antics of the Nigerian system where people who served the nation diligently are later witch hunted for political purposes and intents. As kyari declared, ‘he served Nigeria with the fear of God and is willing to account for his stewardship’ but that should not come in the form of vendetta.”
