Borno North: Revisiting Senator Monguno’s Succour to Constituents

In an article titled “Peace and security education: A critical factor for sustainable peace and national development”, Otive Igbuzor, acknowledged in the International scholars journal that peace and security of life and property has been recognized by scholars and citizens as the primary condition for progress and development of any society.

 

He highlighted that there is a linkage between poor governance on one hand and insecurity and violent conflict on the other.

 

Igbuzor concluded that peace and security education is a critical factor in producing sustainable peace in any society.

 

Little wonder, the senator representing Borno north at the 10th Senate, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno is consolidating on the peace vis-a-vis security education at his senatorial zone with massive empowerment programmes for the people.

 

Barrister Monguno, who is the chairman of the Senate committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters, unwavering efforts to give succour to residents of Borno north commenced immediately after the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly on June 13th 2023.

 

Aware that leadership everywhere is a burden that involves hard work and sacrifice, so as to meet up with the yearnings and demands of the people, Monguno did not waste time by implementing his legislative agenda.

 

Indeed, Barrister Monguno is constantly in touch with his constituents, exemplified by numerous constituency projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the people.

 

Specifically, in a bid to enhance development, following the peace that has returned to Borno state, the senator empowered the people with 110 hijet mini trucks to compliment efforts of the state government.

 

Expectedly, Borno state government house was agog recently, when Governor Babagana Zulum unveiled 110 hijet mini trucks procured and donated by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno as empowerment, and for onward distribution to beneficiaries mostly Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs) from Borno north senatorial district.

 

The empowerment initiative came at a time when economic challenges is severe occasioned by removal of fuel subsidy and the increasing depreciation of the naira against the dollar in the open market, which forced prices of commodities and services skyrocketing.

 

Unveiling the vehicles at the Government House in Maiduguri, Zulum said, the need to have good transportation system for conveying goods and services cannot be overemphasized, pointing out that, the gesture would go along way in alleviating the sufferings of the beneficiaries, make them self- reliant and to also carter for their immediate family needs.

 

Additionally, Zulum commended Senator Monguno for continuously supporting people of his constituency through provisions of agricultural inputs, buses to newly established Federal Polytechnic Monguno, laptops which have enhanced digital literacy amongst students of Northern Borno, irrigation and sewing machines, construction of classroom blocks and teaching materials, cash donations, drilling of boreholes, training and retraining of Youths/women in skills acquisitions, among others which he noted, have complemented efforts of his administration in reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement of IDPs and other vulnerable groups across the state.

 

Hear the governor, “I want to commend Senator Monguno for his people- oriented projects to people of his constituency. Since when he (Monguno) was a member House of Representatives, he has impacted positively on the lives of his people, and I reiterate that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, my humble self and the people of Northern Borno are proud of Monguno who have since key into the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of the federal government.

 

Continuing, Zulum said “let me use this opportunity to call upon other lawmakers to emulate Monguno’s good gestures, as it will serve as palliatives directly or indirectly to his constituents.”

 

Meanwhile, determined to sustain peace in Borno state and Borno north in particular, Senator Monguno at different fora has applauded Governor Zulum, security agencies and all stakeholders who have worked tirelessly in restoring peace that led to resettlement of most of the IDPs from the zone back to their ancestral homes with dignity.

 

The lawmaker has pledged that he will continue to give his maximum support in alleviating the economic challenges faced by his people as peace significantly returned to Borno state.

 

Conclusively, it was gathered that inhabitants of Borno north senatorial district are basking in the euphoria of electing Monguno as senator of the Federal Republic, sequel to quality representation at the upper legislative chamber.
