Fresh Bandits’ Attack Leave 16 Dead in Benue State

Suspected Fulani bandits have allegedly attacked and killed 16 people in a village in  Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack which according to eyewitnesses took at  Wandor, Mbaikyor community in the Mbalom Council Ward of the LGA also led to the killing of a yet to be identified retired military officer.

The heavily armed bandits were also said to have burnt down over 50 houses, tens of hectars of farmland, food stores and settlements.

Confirming the latest attack, the Caretaker Chairman of Gwer East LGA, Mrs. Comfort Agbo said that the area is now calm. “At the moment there is relative peace in the Wandor community. 16 bodies have so far been recovered. Two were injured and are receiving treatment.

“Those who attacked and killed my people are suspected armed herdsmen. The security operatives are currently moving the bodies to the mortuary,” the council stated.

Also, the Benue State Police Command has confirmed the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer, in the state, SP Catherine Anene who confirmed the unfortunate incident said that  the Police Commissioner has already visited the local government for on-the-spot assessment of the attacks.

Just last week, a war broke out between Fulani militia men and some other indigenous militants which led to the death of more than 60 people including over ten innocent farmers.
