APC’s Gawuna Wins Kano Gov in Tribunal

The Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kano has sacked Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the valid winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state.

The  Chairman of the three man panel,  Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadabey said the margin of votes scored by the NNPP was not enough to give Governor Yusuf victory after tribunal recalculated the votes and deducted invalid votes.

APC candidate, Yusuf Gawuna won all the three grounds presented before the tribunal which include over voting, invalid votes and not being a member of the party as at the time of the NNPP primary election.

The Tribunal subsequently ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to retrieve the Certificate of Return issued to Yusuf and then issue a fresh certificate of return to Yusuf Gawuna as the actual winner of the election.

After the deduction of votes by the tribunal, Yusuf Gawuna was declared winner with 897,000 votes, while Abba Yusuf got 850,000 votes.
