
The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi has announced the renaming of the controversial Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
In a press briefing he addressed on Thursday, Engr. Umahi announced that the road will now be known as Bola Tinubu Coastal road. Umahi said that the decision to rename the road was a collective decision of the stakeholders within the Federal Ministry of Works.
The minister noted that the renaming of the road was in honour of Nigerian president for conceiving the mega 750- kilometre road project.

Umahi stated, “By the power conferred on me as the Honourable Minister of Works, and in consultation with the Permanent Secretary, the Minister of State, the directors and the entire staff of the ministry, we have decided to name the entire Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This is a dream that Mr President had about 27 years ago.”
The coastal highway project estimated to cost N15 trillion upon completion has been mired in controversy especially because of the opaque procurement process and general secrecy that surrounds the award of the contract to President Bola Tinubu’s business associates.
At inception, the project was also dogged by the non-disclosure the details the environmental impact assessment status of the project.
Several multi-billion naira properties were also lost to the in controversial circumstances.
