Japanese car manufacturer, Toyota has recalled more than 13,000 Hilux offroad 2,m utes across Australia over due to a faulty steering installation.
According to reports, the recall affects at least 13,390 units of the 2025-26 HiLux, “specifically vehicles fitted with a Toyota Genuine bull bar or nudge bar paired with a light bar.”
The real problem according to Toyota was traced to a technical installation error involving the electric power steering (EPS) system.
Authorities say the problem stems from the incorrect orientation of an earth (ground) terminal during accessory fitting, not a fault in the factory wiring.

According to Toyota, error could compromise the earth connection to the power steering (EPS) module, potentially resulting in the EPS becoming inoperative. Toyota says that drivers of affected vehicles will not see any warning lights or prior symptoms, and if the connection fails, the steering will become instantly heavier.
“The loss of power steering assistance will increase the steering effort at low speeds which may potentially increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users,” Toyota said in a bulletin alerting owners of the affected models.
The error could, however, be fixed in less than one hour when taken to dealers for correction.
It has not been determined if the Hilux model in Africa is also affected.
