Cristiano Ronaldo on Thursday night scored his 900th career goal making him one of the greatest football goal scorers of all times.
The 39 year old who shone as his country Portugal saw off Croatia to win the Euro in an emotional statement said that the win was equivalent to winning a World Cup.
He said that he worked hard every day for the successes he records in every match and every goal scored.
With his latest record, Ronaldo has now leaped his closest football rival, Lionel Messi of Argentina with 62 goals, Messi currently has 838 career goals to his credit.
In a post on his social media handle after the match in Lisbon, Ronaldo said:
“Portugal winning Euros is equivalent to winning a 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐮𝐩”
“I’ve already won two trophies for Portugal that I really wanted. I’m not motivated by that, it’s way different…”.
“I’m motivated by enjoying football and records come naturally. I don’t break records… they just haunt me!”.
“900 goals seems like any other milestone, but only I know how hard it is to work every day to make it 900”.
“It’s a unique milestone in my career, I’m so proud”.
“I’m 39 and a half years old… I have to be very focused for things to go well. It takes a lot of dedication. That’s why, when these records happen, I get so emotional.”
