The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on banditry, kidnapping, and the illegal possession of firearms, with successful operations conducted in Niger, Plateau, and Taraba States.
A statement signed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer
Force indicated in Niger State, operatives of the Police Command, in collaboration with local security teams, rescued seven kidnapped victims unhurt after a fierce gun battle with suspected kidnappers. The suspects had invaded Tungan-Boka and Masaha villages in Mashegu Local Government Area, abducting seven persons.
“Operatives mobilized swiftly for a rescue operation and tracked the kidnappers to a forest within Tungan-Boka village,” the Force said in a statement. “In the ensuing gun duel, the suspects were overpowered, and all abducted victims were rescued without injuries.”
In Plateau State, a raid on a criminal hideout along Bauchi Road in Jos North LGA led to the discovery of 500 rounds of 7.65mm ammunition. The ammunition was found in an abandoned ash-colored Golf Wagon during an operation tied to an ongoing investigation into a culpable homicide case reported on May 3, 2025.

“The vehicle and ammunition are linked to the killing of an unidentified individual,” the Police revealed. “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible.”
Meanwhile, in Taraba State, two major arrests were made following intelligence-led operations. One suspect, identified as Lookman Tanko, was arrested with an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action rifle, and a long gun. In a separate operation, detectives from the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID IRT) arrested Peter Apai, a 45-year-old man from Mubai District in Ardo Kola LGA. Recovered from him were one AK-47 rifle, a pump-action shotgun, and an AK-47 magazine.
“Both suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing investigation. They will be charged to court soon,” the Force said.
Commending the operatives for their gallantry, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, praised their “bravery, dedication, and commitment to duty.”
“We must remain relentless in dismantling criminal syndicates across the country,” the IGP said. “We urge citizens to support these efforts by providing credible information that can aid ongoing investigations.”
The Police emphasized that public cooperation remains vital to ensuring lasting security and peace nationwide.
