PDP: Northern Stakeholders Endorse Ex-Minister, Tanimu Turaki as National Chairmanship Consensus Candidate
The Northern caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed Mr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as its consensus candidate for the National Chairman of the party ahead of the elective national convention of the party scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State in November.
Turaki 68, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is a former minister of Special Duties. He hails from Kebbi State. Before serving as a minister, he was appointed the Chairman of the Nigeria Copyrights Commission (NCC).
The stakeholders which included governors Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, Bala Muhammed of Bauchi State, the National Chairman of the party, Illiya Umar Damagun among others met on Wednesday evening at the Adamawa State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja made the announcement after their meeting. Other prominent stakeholders at the meeting include Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, former President of the Senate, Sen. Bukola Saraki, the Minority Leader of the Senate, Abba Moro and one time Information minister, Prof Jerry Gana.

Governor Fintiri who made the announcement after the stakeholders meeting said:
“As the northern leaders and representatives of each of the states in the north we are here this evening to deliberate on the office of the Chairman.
“In our meeting we delibrated deeply and widely and going to Ibadan for the national convention, we have adopted a consensus candidate to represent the north and by extension Nigeria as the National Chairman of the PDP and that gentleman is K. T. Turaki.
“This is our decision this evening and he is the person we are presenting at the convention as our chairman to represent our party in November in Ibadan.
FACTSHEET reported that the scheduled elective national convention is threatened by two court cases instituted at the Federal High Court Abuja by some members of the party including the National Secretary, Sen Samuel Anyanwu who petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Department of State Services alleging that his signature was forged in a letter submitted to INEC in respect of the convention.
