Maiden West African Economic Summit Kicks-off in Abuja, Ibrahim Traore Other ECOWAS Leaders Expected
The newly refurbished Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja (formerly International Conference Centre, Abuja) hosts its first major event, the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES) hosted by President Bola Tinubu.
Conspicuous at the venue is the pictures of Burkina Faso leader, Ibrahim Traore alongside other military rulers of Niger and Mali. A source at the summit told FACTSHEET that all invited West African leaders are expected to attend the summit in person, including the military rulers of Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali.

President Tinubu had earlier appointed the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca -Odumegwu-Ojukwu a Special Envoy who travelled through West African states to invite leaders to the event.
The Summit which holds between 20th and 21st June is expected to discuss and explore ways of boosting economic activities among West African states.
The summit will also take a further look into the full implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), as well as reviewing challenges impeding the implementation of the 2019 agreement aimed at creating a seamless and robust trade relations among African nations.
