JUST IN: Fed High Court Sentences Four to Death for 2022 Owo Catholic Church Massacre
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja has sentenced four suspects in the 2022 terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo Ondo State to death.
Delivering judgement, Justice Nwite convicted Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, 25; Al Qasim Idris, 20; Jamiu Abdulmalik, 26; and Abdulhaleem Idris, 25 on all 9-count charges preffered against them
The Judge, however, acquitted Momoh Otuho Abubakar, 47 who was charged for terrorism financing. According to the judge, the prosecution did not prove sufficiently that the 5th defendant was culpable for terrorism financing.
The 2022 the terrorists killed over 40 worshippers when they stormed a church services and went on shooting spree that devastated, not just the church, but the entire Ondo State. More than 100 others suffered various degrees of gunshot wounds.
