Yet to be identified gunmen have reportedly killed a popular Catholic priest in Eha Amufu, Enugu State.
The priest identified as Rev. Fr. Mathew Eya who was the parish priest of St. Charles Catholic Church was killed after a failed kidnap attempt.
The incident according to sources close to the church while the priest was returning to his parish from Enugu on Friday evening.
The gunmen intercepted his vehicle at Eha-Ndiagu community, Eha-Alumonah, Nsukka Local Government Area of the state
There have been conflicting accounts of the incident, while some account claim that some occupants of the deceased priest vehicle were abducted by the assailants, another report said that the priest was alone in the vehicle when he was accosted and shut dead at point-blank range by his killers.
The Enugu State Police Command has not given an official account of the unfortunate incident at press time.
