FG Imposes N24,000 Daily Penalty on Foreigners with Expired Visa, Gives 3Months Renewal Grace Period

The Federal Government of Nigeria has slammed a $15 daily penalty for foreigners in the country with expired visa.

The government also announced a 3months grace period for all foreigners to renew their visas or get thrown out.

In a media statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Akinsola Akinlabi on Friday in Abuja  the government stated that, “A 3-month grace period allows foreigners with expired visas to exit Nigeria without penalty, ending August 1st, 2025,” will take effect immediately.

The statement also confirmed that aside the daily fine of  “$15, plus bans of up to five years or permanent blacklisting” await defaulters.

The NIS also announced the introduction of a mandatory online landing card for inbound foreigners and exit card for outbound travelers — both accessible at lecard.immigration.gov.ng
