According to project details, the new airport will feature four runways, an annual passenger handling capacity of 100 million, and parking space for up to 270 aircraft—making it the largest aviation facility on the continent upon completion.

Slated for completion by 2029, the airport aims to transform Ethiopia—and the broader Eastern Africa region—into a major aviation hub, further cementing Ethiopian Airlines’ position as a global leader in air transport.

With this development, Ethiopia is poised to strengthen its role in regional and international connectivity, aligning with broader goals for economic integration and trade growth across Africa.
