EFCC Nabs 35 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Edo State

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 35 suspected internet fraudsters in Auchi, Edo State, in a coordinated sting operation based on credible intelligence.

The arrest was carried out in the early hours of the day across Vigilante Street, Off Sabo Ibenafo Road, and the Back of Yak areas of Auchi.

Confirming the development, the Commission said the operation followed actionable intelligence linking the suspects to various forms of internet-related fraud.

According to a statement from the EFCC, “Operatives of the Commission, acting on verified intelligence, apprehended 35 suspects involved in internet fraud. The operation was carried out with precision to disrupt their illegal cyber activities.”

Items recovered at the point of arrest include nine vehicles, eleven laptop computers, 46 mobile phones, and two smartwatches.

The Commission assured that the suspects will be prosecuted accordingly. “They will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the EFCC added.

The anti-graft agency reaffirmed its commitment to sanitizing the digital space and bringing cybercriminals to justice.
