Ebonyi 2027: PDP Campaign Accuses Governor Nwifuru of Threatening Violence, Petitions Security Agencies Over “Consume” Comment
The Anyichuks Campaign Think-Tank has accused Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state of issuing a public threat of violence against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Ifeanyichukwu Odii, describing the remark as “a confession of a failing administration” and formally notifying Nigeria’s security agencies.
In a press statement signed by Dr. James Nwite of the Anyichuks Campaign Think-Tank and made available to journalists on Tuesday, the group said it was responding to comments allegedly made by Governor Nwifuru at an APC rally in Abakaliki on Monday.
According to the statement, the Governor was quoted as saying: “Some people said that they have discussed with Mr. President through their national leader, Nyesom Wike. They said that the Federal Government has given Ebonyi to PDP. We are just keeping quiet because our people are with us. We have all it takes to consume whosoever that pushes us to the wall.”
The Think-Tank said the remark was “deeply troubling and anti-democratic” and constituted a threat to its candidate, Engr. Odii, as well as PDP supporters across the state.
The group further said that it was “astonished” that Governor Nwifuru, an APC governor, would accuse the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, of conspiring to “deliver Ebonyi to PDP.” The statement described it as a “self-defeating contradiction” and questioned what the Governor’s loyalty to APC had achieved for Ebonyi residents.
The group also argued that Governor Nwifuru’s “panic” at the mention of Chief Odii’s name showed the people had already rejected his administration after “over three years.” It listed “empty stomachs, deteriorating roads, hospitals without drugs, and schools without teachers” as reasons for voter dissatisfaction, insisting the 2027 election would be “a contest between bad governance and the aspirations of long-suffering people.”

The statement referenced the same Abakaliki rally, claiming that attendees “spontaneously sang songs in open support of His Excellency Peter Obi” despite the event being organized to show solidarity with President Bola Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru. The group said this demonstrated how “deeply absent” the Governor had become in the lives of .
The Anyichuks Think-Tank further invoked Sections 40 and 77 of the 1999 Constitution, which guarantee freedom of association and the right to vote without intimidation. It stated that “Ebonyi State is not under military administration” and that any threat of violence by the Chief Security Officer of the state was “not merely anti-democratic—it is a criminal declaration.”
The campaign urged Governor Nwifuru to “desist from such rhetoric” and warned that “history will not be kind to him, and neither will the law.”
In the strongest part of the statement, the group formally called on the Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, and other law enforcement agencies to “take immediate and documented cognizance” of the Governor’s statement.
It warned that should any harm befall the PDP candidate, Odii, his family, campaign team, or supporters, “the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Nwifuru, will be held directly, personally, and legally accountable under the full weight of the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The group also called on Ebonyi residents to “remain calm, resolute, and absolutely committed to the electoral process” ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
