Daily Times Confirms Deputy Speaker, Kalu as Lawmaker of-the-Year, Presents Nomination Letter

The Leadership of Daily Times Newspapers has formally confirmed the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, as the Lawmaker of-the-Year (House of Representatives) in the forthcoming Daily Times @100 Centenary Awards.

 

The confirmation was made over the weekend when the Chairman of Folio Media Group and Publisher of Daily Times, Chief Fidelis Anosike, led a delegation to the Deputy Speaker’s Office in Abuja to formally convey the news of his nomination and present his nomination and official invitation letters for the epoch-making event.

 

It will be recalled that the Organization had previously in a letter to the Office of the Deputy Speaker, also signed by Anosike, stated that Kalu emerged the Lawmaker of the Year with the highest number of votes after an extensive nomination and public voting process.

 

The award is in recognition of Kalu’s leadership, public service and contributions to national development.

 

“On behalf of the Board, Management and Organising Committee of the Daily Times Nigeria @100 Celebration, we are pleased to inform you that you have been selected to receive the DTN@100 Lawmaker of the Year (House of Representatives).

 

“Following an extensive nomination and public voting process, you received the highest number of votes in this award category. The Times Heroes Award Council and other key stakeholders subsequently confirmed your selection in recognition of your leadership, public service and contribution to national development.

 

“Recipients of the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards will be featured among the most outstanding personalities and institutions in the 700-page Nigerian Grand Book,” the letter read in parts.

 

According to the organisation, the public conferment of the awards will take place in Abuja on September 3, 2026, as part of activities marking the centenary celebration of Daily Times of Nigeria.

 

In his response, the Deputy Speaker, Kalu expressed gratitude to the Organization for finding him worthy of the award.

 

He said the award would motivate him to do more for the people of Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State whom he represents at the National Assembly in particular, as well as for Nigerians in general.
