Court Orders EFCC to Release Aisha Achimugu Within 24 Hours

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to grant administrative bail to businesswoman Aisha Achimugu and ensure her release within 24 hours.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, who issued the order on Wednesday, also directed that all parties involved, particularly the EFCC, return to court on May 2, 2025, to report on compliance with the ruling.

“The respondent (EFCC) is hereby ordered to release the applicant (Achimugu) on administrative bail within 24 hours,” Justice Ekwo ruled. “All parties are to return to court on May 2 for a report on compliance.”

Achimugu, the managing director and CEO of Felak Concept Group, was declared wanted by the EFCC on March 28 for alleged money laundering. She was arrested at about 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday upon her arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja from London.

She arrived in court at approximately 11:35 a.m. on Wednesday, flanked by two female EFCC operatives.

Justice Ekwo had earlier, on Monday, ordered Achimugu described in EFCC reports as having fled the country to present herself at the EFCC office by 12 noon on Tuesday. He further directed that the anti-graft agency, upon her appearance, should return with her to court the following day to provide a compliance update.

However, rather than allowing her to honor the court ordered appointment, EFCC operatives reportedly arrested and detained her immediately upon arrival in the country.
