Burkina Faso Govt Scraps Visa Requirement for Visiting Africans

The Government of Burkina Faso has announced Visa-free entrance for all African nationals.

The new policy announced by the Captain Ibrahim Traore led military government OF Burkina Faso is part of Traore’s policy of encouraging greater integration and cooperation among African nations.

Announcing the new policy at the council of Ministers meeting presided over by Traore himself, the Minister of Security, Muhamadou Sana, said, “From now on, any citizen from an African country wishing to go to Burkina Faso will not pay any amount to cover visa fees.”

In a separate statement, the government stated that the new policy “will also help promote tourism and Burkinabe culture, and improve Burkina Faso’s visibility abroad.”

With the new policy, Burkina Faso has keyed into the African Union’s Agenda 2063 which aims at making Africa a single seamless and strong economic hub for the people of the continent.

AU Agenda plans “ to prioritise inclusive social and economic development, continental and regional integration, democratic governance and peace and security amongst other issues aimed at repositioning Africa to becoming a dominant player in the global arena.”

Other African nations that have relaxed visa restrictions for other Africans include, Kenya, Ghana and Rwanda.
