The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi has praised Nigerian security forces for the safe rescue of the 46 abducted school children and their teachers in Oyo State.

In a statement on Saturday, Obi, a former governor of Anambra State commended the safe rescue which he described as “worthy of thanksgiving,” as a thing of joy.

The NDC flag-bearer said that he was very relieved when he heard the good news of the rescue.

He, however, called for a collective effort from all Nigerians to work together to make the country safe for children to learn without fear.

According to Obi, “While we celebrate this happy outcome, we must remember that no child should ever have to endure such trauma. The recurring incidents of kidnapping, particularly of schoolchildren, underscore the urgent need to strengthen our security architecture and make the protection of lives and property the foremost responsibility of government.

“Our children deserve to learn in an atmosphere of safety, not fear. We must continue to work towards building a Nigeria where every child can pursue education without the threat of violence or abduction.”

The school children and their teachers were abducted on May 15, 2026 and were rescued on July 10, 2026.
