Wike Assures FCT University of Science and Technology Will Take Off Under Tinubu’s Administration

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents of Abaji that the proposed Federal Capital Territory University of Science and Technology will commence operations before the end of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Wike gave the assurance during a thank-you visit to Abaji Area Council in Abuja, where he disclosed that the FCT Administration had already begun developing key infrastructure and facilities required for the take-off of the institution.
According to the minister, the establishment of the university is part of ongoing efforts by the current administration to expand access to quality education and accelerate development within the FCT satellite towns.

He urged residents to remain patient and supportive, stressing that the Tinubu-led administration was committed to ensuring the successful establishment and operation of the institution.
“The President is committed to seeing that the FCT University of Science and Technology in Abaji becomes a reality. Work has already begun on the necessary infrastructure to enable the institution commence operations,” Wike said.

Beyond the university project, the minister also announced several infrastructure interventions aimed at improving the living conditions of residents in the area.

Among the projects is the construction of the Gurara Market bridge to ease movement and boost commercial activities in the community. Wike also pledged that the FCT Administration would address the persistent gully erosion threatening two communities in the area.
In addition, he revealed plans to reactivate work on a 15-kilometre abandoned road linking two communities, a project expected to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic activities across the Abaji axis.

In a move aimed at strengthening traditional institutions in the territory, Wike further announced the upgrade of traditional rulers, stating that all third-class chiefs would be elevated to second-class status, while all second-class chiefs would be promoted to first-class chiefs.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for appointing Wike as FCT Minister.
Abdullahi noted that Abaji had experienced limited Federal Government presence in the past but said the recent development initiatives had given the people a renewed sense of belonging within the FCT.
He commended the minister for prioritising infrastructure and community development in the area, adding that residents were optimistic that the planned projects would significantly transform Abaji and surrounding communities.
