Appeal Court Victory: Senator Onyesoh Says No Victor, No Vanquished

The lawmaker representing Rivers East Senatorial District, Allwell Onyesoh, has expressed gratitude to God for the favourable victory recorded at the Court of Appeal.

The Senator who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs and also the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) equally thanked the people of Rivers East, political leaders, and party loyalists for their unwavering support.

This is coming on the heels of the judgement of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, which unanimously upheld his election and threw out the appeal filed by Okwuwolu E. Benjamin.

In the appeal with suit no: CA/ABJ/EP/SEN/RV/50/23: Okwuwolu Wolu Ekelechi Benjamin of the Labour Party Vs INEC and three others, the court declared Senator Onyesoh the rightful winner of the February 25th general election. The judges emphasized the petitioner’s failure to substantiate his case, emphasizing the absence of polling unit agents’ testimonies and the necessity for validation by those present at the voting units.

In a statement by his Media Officer, Peter Oriri, Senator Onyesoh was quoted to have said:

“I am deeply honoured and grateful to our Creator for this victory, which I consider a resounding mandate to persistently work for the advancement of our dear State, particularly Rivers East.

Most importantly, I attribute this triumph to the unwavering support of my party faithful, supporters and political leaders who have stood by me steadfastly. Your confidence in me has intensified my resolve to guarantee that my people revel in the democratic dividends they rightfully deserve.

“Above all, it is essential to acknowledge that there is no victor nor vanquished in the Appeal Court judgment. Every citizen possesses the fundamental right to seek legal recourse. However, now is the moment for concerted effort; let us propel Rivers East and Nigeria towards progress.”
