Three members of the House of Representatives who were purportedly suspended from the Labour Party (LP) alongside the Governor Alex Otti of Abia State by the embattled factional national chairman of the party, Mr. Julius Abure have dismissed the purported suspension describing it as a “laughable” action.
Hon. Afam Ogene
The trio of Hon. Afam Ogene (Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Anambra State), Leader of the LP Caucus; Hon. Seyi Sowunmi (Ojo Federal Constituency, Lagos State), Deputy Leader LP Caucus and Hon Amaobi Oga (Isukwuato/ Umunnochi Federal Constituency, Abia State) in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday stated that Abure and his “band of jesters overreached themselves” by the announcement.
Abure and his team had announced the suspension of the only governor of the party, National Assembly members and the recently inaugurated Caretaker Committee members led by Senator Nenadi Usman.
Hon Seyi Sowunmi
The lawmakers expressed grave disappointment on the action of Abure and his team whom they accused of working hard to kill the Labour Party.
According to the trio, accused Abure of constantly working to disintegrate the party instead of building it.

Hon. Amaobi Ogah
Part of the statement reads:
“From yesterday’s overreach by himself and his band of jesters, it is now evidently clear to everyone who has followed recent events in the Labour Party.
“A political party is set up for the specific goal of participating in the democratic process, especially the contestation for power.
“Since the Peter Obi effect of 2023, what have Abure and his gang of undertakers done to enhance the fortunes of the party? In fact, we challenge him and his cohorts to name one single individual of note that they have attracted to the party since 2023.
“From Kogi to Bayelsa, Ondo to Edo, what Abure has done is lead the party to disastrous outcomes.
“The last time around, it was announcing the sack and replacement of Hon. Ogene as caucus leader, but when that didn’t work, he resorted to contriving a fake suspension order.
“Abure has appointed himself as a willing undertaker for the destruction of the soul of the party, but ironically, he is only supervising the burial plan of his image and integrity as a public servant and political leader. We wish him well.”
