We Have Not Held Congresses in Ebonyi State, Ebonyi PDP Clarifies

 

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign organisation in Ebonyi State has dismissed an alleged party congresses in the state that was said to have held on Saturday October 19, 2024.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abakaliki and signed by Prince Darlington Onwe, the Director of NGOs in the Anyi G’Emeya organisation, the party called on the party faithful and supporters in the state to ignore the purported congresses as the PDP is already aware of a subsisting court injunction stopping congresses in the State.

According to the statement, “In light of the recent developments concerning the unauthorized Congress of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, the Anyi G’Emeya Movement has issued a statement emphasizing the need for unity and adherence to legal frameworks.

 

“The PDP’s leadership has made it clear that today’s Congress lacks sanction and defies a Federal High Court order, highlighting the ongoing complexities within the party. The National Secretariat’s withdrawal from the event underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law and maintaining ethical standards in political practices.

The group enjoined PDP members and supporters to go about their normal businesses as the PDP national leadership will at the appropriate time communicate the people and properly conduct congresses that will be compliant with extant Nigerian electoral statutes including the monitoring of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

 

The organisation reiterated its commitment to the yearnings of the people of Ebonyi State for a development oriented leadership in the state

“The Anyi G’Emeya Movement is a pro-people and citizens-led organisation with the mandate to uplift the well-being of the people of Ebonyi State through advocacy for responsive leadership, upholding the rule of law, and fostering sustainable growth and development in the state.

 

According to the statement, “As a pro-people organisation that strives for a peaceful and prosperous community where every individual thrives, creating a model for development that inspires change across Ebonyi and beyond, it calls on its supporters to remain steadfast in their commitment to the party’s core values.

The statement further reassures members that genuine party leaders are actively working towards resolving the ongoing leadership feud and fostering unity within the party. “Trust in their efforts and remain engaged in the process  reiterating that the Anyi G’Emeya Movement calls for collective resilience and commitment to their vision for a better future for Ebonyi State. ls
