2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi has condemned an assassination attempt on his life and others at the residence of former governor of Edo State, John Odigie-Oyegun on Tuesday.
Vehicles in the convoy of Peter Obi in company with Oyegun, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were riddled with bullet on Tuesday as the All Democratic Congress (ADC) Edo State officially welcomed Mr. Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party governorship candidate in the last governorship election in Edo State.
The gunmen allegedly trailed Obi’s convoy from the ADC office to the residence of Chief Oyegun where they opened fire on the vehicle carrying Mr. Obi. The gunfire damaged several vehicles and the gate of Chief Oyegun’s residence according to eyewitness accounts.

Mr. Obi who spoke in a trending video after the attack condemned the attack saying that Nigeria cannot condone official terrorism.
He said: “This is where our democracy has reached. A former governor, and you can see what happened in front of his house, where hoodlums came shooting.
“I assure you this cannot continue; we have a country, and we are a part of it. We cannot have terrorism and have officials in government terrorising the citizens.”
There has not been official reaction from the Edo State Police Command over the incident.
