Atlanta, United States rapper, Dequantes Devontay Lamar, who is popularly known with his stage name, Rich Homie Quan has died at the age of 33.
Rich Homie Quan rose to stardom in 2013 with his smash hit song, “type of way” which instantly launched him as a lyricist and rapper of note.
According to reports, the lanky rapper died at a hospital in Atlanta but the cause of death has not been determined.
A senior medical investigator, Jimmy Sadler at Fulton County Medical Examiner confirmed the death of the rapper on Thursday indicating that an autopsy has already been scheduled for Friday to determine possible cause of death.
“On Thursday, 5 September 2024, the Fulton County Medical Examiner was notified by Grady Memorial Hospital of the death of Dequantes Devontay Lamar.” The medical examiner said.
Rich Homie Quan in one interview condemned the portrayal of gun violence in music videos saying that the social media was also helping to fuel gun violence and that it makes law enforcement agencies target black people in the US.
“I wouldn’t say unfairly targeted because at the same time, some of these rappers are putting guns in videos and, you know, it’s like social media — it goes back to the social media thing.”
“I think we showing too much, I think they’re showing too much, you know what I mean. Like that’s the difference in my music, I’ma tell a story but I ain’t going to tell you how I did it,” he added. “It’s still Black art, but we’re definitely being targeted. So that’s why I’m mindful of what I say in my music,” he had said.
Plethora of tributes have been flowing over the death of the young rappers as his fans mourn, some calling for a massive download of his works to show support for his family.
