Veteran Nollywood thespian, Kanayo O Kanayo has said that Davido’s love for Nigeria and desire for a better nation inspired the singer’s criticism in a podcast in the USA.
Davido, real name, David Adeleke while featuring on ‘The Big Homies House’ podcast in the US, had said that Nigeria as a nation was not working and it was the efforts of young people through entertainment and technology that is giving the country its positive image abroad.
Davido pointedly said that “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles.”
He also advised black Americans who were contemplating the idea of relocating to Nigeria to not try it as they may be in for a shock.
However, many Nigerians took to the social media to castigate the singer with many asking him to apologise for making the statements.
Reacting to the anger being expressed by some Nigerians, Kanayo O Kanayo in a now viral video message defended Davido saying that the superstar had rights to air his opinion about his country.
Kanayo stated that while Davido and his family could take care of themselves, the millions of Nigerians the singer was speaking out for could not take care of themselves.
He said, “@davido spoke his mind, isn’t it? Respect his views too. The Adeleke’s can feed for life but it will be unholy if they assume all is ok because they are OK.
“Make una leave Davido alone over the comment he made. It is freedom of speech and he made the statement in good faith. It is left for those in power to work harder to give us a better Nigeria
“Some people say he should apologize, for what? Those who criticize us want the best out of us. Davido speaks for other Nigerians who cannot feed.”
