Tinubu Recalls All Nigerian Ambassadors

President Bola Tinubu has approved the recall of all Nigerian career and non-career ambassadors from various foreign missions.

The minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb Yusuf Tuggar in the statement on Tuesday said the recall was with immediate effect.

The statement reads in part, “Sequel to the inquiries on the letter recalling the Nigerian ambassador to the UK, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has clarified that all career ambassadors and non-career ambassadors have been recalled on the instructions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ambassadors as representatives of the country serve at the behest of the President and it’s his prerogative to send or recall them from any country.”

It is not clear at press time the reason behind the recall. Amidst escalating coups in various African nations, its believed that the President’s decision maybe part of Nigeria’s plan to rejig its foreign policy, especially in relation to strong allies.
