Teachers under the banner of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) on Friday staged a major protest in Ibadan, Oyo State over the continued captivity of pupils and teachers that were recently violently abducted in Esiele, Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Terrorists had on May 15, 2026 invaded the schools in the community and abducted teachers and over 40 pupils most of whom are under five years. The terrorists later grusomely beheaded a teacher, Mr. Michael Oyedokun, a mathematics teacher at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele was abducted and later beheaded by the terrorists in the presence of the truamatised teachers and pupils.
Since the abduction of the pupils and their teachers, both the Oyo State Government led by Mr. Seyi Makinde and the Federal Government of Nigeria have failed to take any concrete steps to rescue the kidnap victims.


Security agencies including the police and the military have also not done much as there has been no progress on the rescue efforts nearly three weeks after the terrorists struck.
Instead, the terrorists have continued to taunt the government by releasing disturbing footage of how their victims are being punished in the forest.
The situation led to the storming of Ibadan streets by primary and secondary school teachers demanding immediate action to secure the release of the abducted teachers and their pupils.
The protesters converged on Iwo Road, Ibadan, where they chanted solidarity songs with their colleagues in captivity.
