September Salary: Federal Workers Receive N70,000 New Minimum Wage

Federal Civil servants in Nigeria have started receiving the new minimum wage of based on N70,000.

The receipt of the new increment was confirmed by both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Confirming the payment, Benson Upah, the spokesman of the NLC told journalists in Abuja on Friday that members of the NLC were already receiving the alerts of their pay. He urged employers in the private sector to take the cue from the federal government and immediately implement the new minimum wage in their various organisations.  “Yes, I think so. We ask other entities to emulate this example,” Upah told journalists.

On his part, the Deputy President of the TUC, Tommy Etim also confirmed the new development saying, “FG’s committee on consequential adjustments already released a template, so, no one has any moral ground to delay the payment of the minimum wage. We now advise that all other parties follow suit and commence the payment of the new minimum wage.”
