The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Abbas Tajudeen has called off his earlier planned media chat to discuss the benefits of Northern Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the last three years.
The Speaker had announced last week that he would engage select Journalists in a “chat” that was scheduled to have been televised live on four national television networks today.
However, in a terse media statement issued by Abdullahi Krishi, the Special Adviser, Media to the Speaker, the lawmaker announced that the earlier scheduled media event had been postponed due to “other pressing national engagements.”
The statement reads in part:
“The Office of the Speaker, House of Representatives regrets to announce to the public that the earlier publicized media chat with Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, GCON, scheduled for 6.pm today, Monday, November 2, has been postponed due to other pressing national engagements.
“Please, note that a new date for the media engagement will be communicated in due course.
“We regret any inconvenience and thank all concerned for their understanding and cooperation.”
A lawmaker who spoke to FACTSHEET on the condition of anonymity said that, “obviously the Speaker has nothing to tell the people of the North under this excruciating hunger and insecurity. ”
According to the lawmaker, “the Speaker has done well for his constituency and for himself, but can he really speak for Northern Nigeria? Even the Vice President cannot really take such step. So it was a wise decision he called it off to avoid pitching himself against the Northern establishment.
No date has been set for the “postponed” media chat.
