House Minority Leader, Hon Kingsley Ogundu Chinda on Tuesday resigned his position and announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress Congress (APC).
The Speaker Hon Abbas Tajudeen who presided at the plenary announced the defection on Tuesday.
Hon Chinda recently emerged governorship candidate of the APC in Rivers State.

The defection letter read by the Speaker on Tuesday was, however, dated April 23, 2026.
Following the announcement of his defection, Chinda subsequently resigned his position as Minority Leader of the House.
Meanwhile, the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives is expected to elect a new minority leader following Chinda’s resignation.
