.Calls for Collaborative Efforts to Advance Media Sector
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has extended his warmest congratulations to the Editor of Vanguard Newspaper, Mr. Eze Anaba on his re-election as the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
He also felicitated the Managing Director (MD) of The Sun Newspaper, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh on his election as the General Secretary of the Guild.
In a statement, Kalu commended the duo elected at the just concluded Guild’s National Convention in Enugu, for their dedication to promoting a free and responsible press, and their commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethical journalism in Nigeria.

Commending the NGE’s significant contributions to the develoment of democracy in Nigeria, Kalu expressed his enthusiasm for continued collaboration with the Guild and the broader media community to promote good governance, press freedom, and civic engagements.
To move Nigeria’s media ecosystem forward, Kalu who was the Spokesman of the 9th House of Representatives advised the NGE to prioritize capacity building for journalists, promote investigative journalism, harness digital media, foster collaboration with other stakeholders, and uphold ethics and standards in journalism.
The Deputy Speaker emphasized the importance of working together to build a stronger, more vibrant media sector that promotes democracy, good governance, and development in Nigeria.
“We believe that by working together, we can create a media landscape that is not only free but also responsible and professional.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership with the NGE to help deepen democracy in Nigeria”, he said.
Kalu expressed confidence in the leadership to continue promoting the highest standards of journalism as well as democratic principles.
