Peter Obi and I Are a Team, We Remain Members of Labour Party- Datti Baba-Ahmed

Datti Baba-Ahmed, the running mate of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) has refuted insinuations that there was a rift between him and his principal, Mr. Peter Obi.

Baba-Ahmed spoke to journalists on Monday in Abuja after attending a National Executive Committee (NEC) organised by the factional national chairman of the LP, Mr. Julius Abure.

The Vice Presidential candidate who reaffirmed his membership of the LP disclosed that he attended the Abure’s faction meeting as part of peace-building within the party also affirmed that Mr. Peter remains a member of the LP.

Speaking on the insinuation that there may be a “crack” between him and his principal, he categorically denied any rifts insisting that it will be easier to break the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) than to break the bond between him and Peter Obi.

“There is no crack between Obi and myself. In fact, it’s impossible for there to be any crack between us.

“It is easier to break the head of APC than for a crack to exist between me and my boss, Peter Obi,” Baba-Ahmed clarified.

On their membership of the Labour Party, he said, “I have attended and I have listened to the coalition attempts. Yes, I still remain in the Labour Party.”

“To the best of our knowledge, H.E. Peter Obi, my boss, is still a member of the Labour Party. He, just like I, attended the coalition talks; but coalition is not a political party. He has not become a member of ADC.”

There have been speculations that Peter Obi has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC),

The Labour Party in the last one year has been faced with series of challenges around its leadership with Mr. Abure holding on to a part of the party structure, while Mr. Peter Obi and the governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti and other prominent members supporting Senator Nenadi Usman led Caretaker Committee.
