PDP: Ibadan Convention Faces New Hurdle as Anyanwu Petitions INEC, DSS, IGP Over Signature ‘Forgery ‘

The November 15-16 scheduled Elective National Convention of opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has further been threatened as the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu has petitioned security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over an alleged forgery of his signature in the letter sent to INEC.

In the  petitions dated October 15 and submitted to INEC, DSS, and the IGP on October 16, Sen.  Anyanwu stated that he never signed the August 29 letter to INEC regarding the November 15–16 National Convention.

The convention has already been threatened by a suit filled at the Federal High Court Abuja by the trio of Chairman of PDP  Abia State, Chairman of PDP Imo State and the South South Zonal Chairman of the party.  The matter which is before Honourable Justice Omotosho was Last week adjouned to Monday October 20, 2025 for substantive hearing.

 

In the suit, the plaintiffs are seeking to stop the convention pending the conduct of outstanding congresses in Ebonyi, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, and the ratification of the the South South Zonal leadership of the party.

 

In the latest development, Sen Anyanwu told INEC and security agencies including the Department of State Services (DSS), Inspector General of Police and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that his signature was forged in a purported letter authorising the convention.

In the petition addressedto the InspectorGeneralofPolice, Anyanwu averred that, The “My attention has been drawn to the above-titled official letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with Ref. No. PDP/DOM/GF.2/Vol. 1M/25-140 dated Monday, August 25, 2025, purportedly signed by me.

 

“Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorised, or known to me. It is shocking to have a forged/cloned version of my signature on the letter.

“I therefore request that this criminal conduct by officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their collaborators within INEC be investigated and the culprits prosecuted.

 

“Attached herewith is an excerpt of the forged document for ease of reference.”

 

Also, in a separate letter to the DSS Director General, titled “Petition Against Forgery and Cloning of My Signature,” Anyanwu urged an investigation and prosecution of PDP officials and INEC collaborators involved in the alleged crime.

 

Part of the petition reads:
