Party Chairmen Accuse Imo Election Commission of Planning to Announce LGA Chairmen Without Election
Chairmen of registered political parties Imo State under the umbrella of Forum of Political Parties State Chairmen in Imo State (FPPSC) have accused the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (IMSIEC) of planning to announce Chairmen of the 2027 local government areas in the state without conducting election.
According some of the Chairmen in a statement issued in Owerri on Sunday, the proposed Imo LGA election fixed to hold within the a two-week period is more like “a movie script” than an election that should be guided by constitutional procedures.
The party leaders alleged that the ISIEC has not followed laid down rules for the conduct of local government elections in Nigeria.
Speaking on a “notice” dated September 11, 2026 with reference number, “ISIEC/AD/1/001” and signed by Chief Charles Ejiogu, JP, the Chairman ISIEC, the party leaders in a memo seen by FACTSHEET, stated that, “The planned Imo LGA election with a two-week notice that was not addressed to anyone, especially political parties, is like an Ugandan movie that can only be staged in the days of Idi Amin. How can an election that was never fixed, with no timetable or statutory notice, be held? You wake up, backdate a memo, and say it’s a sequel to the notice we gave you last year, when there was no such notice; that’s the height of political madness taken too far in Imo State again.”
Another party chairman quiried the rational behind a “clandestine activit” on Imo LGA elections. He queried, “How do you conduct an election without a timetable, no notice, and no information to any single political party?
“Imagine the State electoral commission waking up to the Say LGA election will hold in 2 weeks is madness of the highest order and a criminal action for which all of them should be arrested and charged.
“The jamboree will not stand, and no political party in Imo State will participate in this madness unless those who fixed the dance of shame themselves.
Other party leaders in the state have threatened to “got ot court” should the ISIEC go ahead to announce chairmen of LGAs without conducting election as stipulated in the constitution.
