NSA Hands Over 60 Rescued Kidnap Victims, Warns Against Ransom Payments

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has officially handed over 60 individuals rescued from kidnappers to their families.

The followed a successful operation led by the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division and supported by other security and intelligence agencies.

The victims, comprising 35 males and 25 females, were abducted from various communities across Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory. Among them were notable individuals such as Adesanya Michael, a Deputy Director at the National Assembly Commission, and Ishaya Kukah, the brother of Bishop Matthew Kukah.

During the handover, Ribadu issued a strong warning against the payment of ransom to kidnappers, stressing that such actions embolden criminal elements.

“Stop giving money to these people. It is one of the worst things that is happening,” he said.

He noted that many families had already paid ransom without securing the release of their loved ones, only for security agencies to step in and complete the rescue.

“The families of many of these people gave monies to their abductors, but it did not lead to their release. It is we, the security forces, that still rescued them,” Ribadu added.

He reassured Nigerians of the government’s unwavering commitment to tackling insecurity.

“We will not relent and we will not stop,” he vowed.

The victims, who endured inhumane conditions while in captivity, received medical assistance before reuniting with their families. Authorities revealed the kidnappers were linked to known bandit leaders, including Yellow One Million, Yellow Maiduna, Shehu Rekeb, and Farin Yellow.
