Human rights activist and the the 2023 presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore was on Sunday detained by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) as he arrived the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos from his base in the United States of America.
Sowore’s international passport was seized by operatives of the NIS on the ground that he was on the watch list of the Department of State Services (DSS).
However, after the NIS contacted the DSS, the activist was released but his passport was allegedly withheld.
Sowore had raised alarm over the weekend that the DSS operatives were working round the clock to frame him up in his home state of Ondo State ahead of his arrival in Nigeria.
The former presidential candidate has been fingered by the government as one of the key sponsors of the #EndBadGovernance protest that rocked the country in August.
