Governor Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has welcomed Mr. Jeremiah Obaji Nworu to the Government House, Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki.
Mr. Nworu, a Lagos based businessman, embarked on a solo trekking expedition from Lagos to Abakaliki, a distance of over 630 kilometers to “appreciate” the Ebonyi State governor for restoring peace to his (Mr. Nworu) native Effium Community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the State.
Mr. Obaji Nworu had embarked on the “Treka-ton” on August 20, 2025 and arrived Abakaliki on September 7, 2025.
Governor Ogbonna Nwifuru who was represented at the Government House gate by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Emma Echiegu also announced a donation of N10 million to Mr. Nworu for his act of courage and appreciation.
Speaking to journalists, Dr. Echiegu stated that Governor Nwifuru “believes in peaceful coexistence of all the people of the state” and therefore, has intervened in all troubled communities including Abaomege/Inshinkwo Ukawu, Ezillio/Ezza, Effium and other troubled communities.
Mr. Nworu in a remarkable show of resilience, strength and determination traversed Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Anambra and Enugu states on foot to arrive Abakaliki the Ebonyi State capital in a journey that took 17 days.

Mr. Nworu covered most of his journey through live streaming on the social media where he shared his experiences with his over 20, 000 social media followers (Facebook alone).
Recounting his experience, Nworu expressed happiness for the support he got from Ebonyi indigenes living in the various states he traversed who occasionally stopped and hosted him on his way. Many attended to his battered feet while offering safe places to him to pass the night.
Mr. Nworu arrived Abakaliki around 11am on Sunday and was welcomed by a massive crowd that followed him to the government house.
Governor Nwifuru who welcomed him has made some yet to be disclosed modest donation to him in appreciation of his resilience and goodwill to the government.
Effium Community was thrown into a fratricidal communal war that lingered for over eight years leaving the hitherto thriving town in ruins while thousands of lives were also lost.
