June 12: Group Urges Nigerians to Re-evaluate Democracy in Nigeria

A socio-political group, Anyi G’Emeya movement has called on Nigerians to use the event of the June 12 anniversary to reflect on the ideal behind the Democracy Day celebration and the sacrifices made by patriotic Nigerians to enthrone democracy in the country.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki on Thursday and signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Moses Idika, the Anyi G’Emeya Movement called on the people of Ebonyi State and Nigerians that “, it is time for reflection. It is time to reflect on the issues and promises that democracy brings and for us to introspect on these issues to find out if indeed we have enjoyed or are enjoying democracy in Ebonyi State.”

The Anyi G’Emeya Movement a support group for Dr, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, the Ebonyi State  2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The group called on Nigerians to note that, “Democracy brings peace, democracy brings security and sense of security, democracy imbues freedom, free enterprise, industrialisation; democracy raises the standard of living of the people, democracy breeds patriotism and service to the people, democracy brings growth and peace,” therefore, evaluate the current crop of leaders in Nigeria if they were indeed living up to expectations.

The group, however, urged that “ Ndi Ebonyi to be steadfast, believe in democracy, because democracy really means the people first, it means peace, democracy means prosperity, sustainable progress collective growth.

“It is important that we also reflect on the fact that June 12 represents the collective resolve of Nigerians across political, ethnic and religious lines, June 12 represents the collectivism of one Nigeria, a Nigeria that is blind to primordial sentiments, June 12 stands for our collective destiny as a great nation and to keep the real memory of June 12 is to revert to the very fabric that united Nigeria on June 12, 1993.”
