The Council of State is currently meeting at the State House Abuja with Presdent Bola Tinubu presiding.
Part of the agenda of the meeting is the consideration of the next chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
President Bola Tinubu has shortlisted three nominees for the plum job.
The nominees are, Prof. Joash Amupitan, Justice Abdullahi Mohammed Liman, and Prof. Lai Olurede.

Among those present at the time the council meeting started are Vice President Kashim Shettima; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Others include, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen and several state governors.
Former Heads of State including Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan are expected to join via zoom. Former Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar joined online as well.
Section 153 153 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended),established the Council of State to advise the President on key national issues, including the appointment of the INEC Chairman, National Population Commission, and National Judicial Council members as well as issues of national security.
